What to expect

Whether you’re exploring faith or seeking a church family, we know walking into a new church can feel daunting - but you are welcome here! At our relaxed Sunday services you’ll find a warm, friendly group from Hackbridge learning about the life, love and freedom Jesus offers.

Wherever you’re at on your faith journey - curious, committed, hurting or hopeful - there's a place for you here.

When you arrive

We’ll have refreshments available from 2.30pm and some of the welcome team will be around to meet you and answer any questions you may have. The service starts in the upstairs room at 3pm and lasts about 70-90 minutes.

During the service

You won’t be asked to say or do anything that you’re uncomfortable with. There will be prayers, singing, Bible readings, a sermon and space for people to reflect on what we’ve heard.

Children are really welcome throughout, and there are also separate groups for pre-school & primary aged children to go to during the sermon if they and/or parents prefer (for children aged 18m to 10 years).

Afterwards

People stick around for food and chat. We are a social lot, but if you need space, that’s fine too. Normally we bring and share food to eat together afterwards - feel free to turn up without bringing anything and just dive in!

FAQs

What time is the service?

We meet for refreshments from 2.30pm, then the service starts more formally at 3pm.

What should I wear?

Whatever you’re comfortable in.

Do I need to believe certain things or be a good person to come?

No. We all have questions, doubts and troubles as well as sin and regrets. Church is a hospital for broken people.

Is there parking?

There are some parking spaces by the BedZed Pavilion. There’s plenty of free parking on Sundays on the roads around.

What is there for children?

We love having children with us - they are welcome throughout the service. There are also age-appropriate break-out groups during the sermon - these are led by excellent DBS-checked volunteers, for half an hour or so, where the children will be taught about God from the Bible, just like the adults are. Those under 18m or so are welcome to stay in the service; once they get more keen to move about you may prefer to take them to the youngest children’s group. There are groups up to the top of primary school age, after which point most children choose to join the adults in the main service. The youth group often meets after the service with an adult volunteer to discuss and process the sermon.

What kind of church is this?

We are a gospel-centred Christian church in the Anglican tradition. We are Reformed in our theology and we belong to the Anglican Mission in England (AMiE, authorised by the Archbishops of GAFCON, a global network of over 90 million Anglican Christians).

What happens during the service?

There will be prayers, singing, a Bible reading and a sermon. Regular church members may share what they feel they have heard God saying through the preaching of his word.

Will I be asked to do anything?

No. You won’t be asked to say or do anything that you’re uncomfortable with. Words for songs and corporate prayers appear on the screen and you are welcome to participate as much or as little as you like.

How long is the service?

Normally 70-90 minutes long.

Will I be asked for money?

No. We don’t take collections or ask visitors for money. Instead church members give regularly by standing order to support the work of the church. If you want to make a one-off donation, you can do so using our giving form.

Can I talk to someone about questions or problems, or be prayed for?

Absolutely. If unsure who to ask, approach one of the welcome team or the minister.

What disabled facilities are there?

There is an accessible toilet on the ground floor, and there is a lift that can take people up to the upstairs room where the service happens.
